To show that Spotify is finally landing in Japan and to explain which features are available in the streaming service, Mamoru Mohri was invited to the commercial. Mamoru Mohri is a former NASDA astronaut, and a veteran of two NASA space shuttle missions. In the video Mamoru is on the space ship and navigates through the functions.

Convention of the explainer video was to make the space station with an astronaut in the retro style. Something like a space station from the previous century. Everything to show figuratively that Spotify after years is finally in Japan. What I really like are levitating items. Instead of making CGI elements, everything was attached to wires and looks cheap and funny. Great idea!

Retro user interface

In this explainer video, I had to revive the decoration. It was fun because I didn't have to make futuristic animations like always. This time the main task was to prepare retro elements for space ship control panel. Screens like they were used 20 years ago but very exaggerated. I had to design and animate 16 loop videos with different circular shapes. Everything in intense, contrast colors. Except that I did screens in a classic old school green color with random numbers and letters.

With Spotify’s revolutionary discovery and personalization features that fit your every mood, we aim to help people enjoy more music and connect more artists with fans than ever before.
